Representatives from the U.S. Army and the All-American Bowl committee made it official today. Lake Taylor DE/TE Jalyn Holmes is an All-American.
The award ceremony was held at Lake Taylor High School on Wednesday, and there was a bit of a surprise to go along with the announcement. Not only is Holmes an All-American, but his Coach, Hank Sawyer, will join him in San Antonio for All-American Week and the bowl game. Sawyer was selected to attend the U.S. Army All-American Coaches Academy and will be on the sidelines as a coach at the game.
“To have a player of Jalyn’s caliber is one thing. But to have a player with his attitude, his desire is enough,” said Sawyer at the ceremony. “Players like Jalyn keep me coming back. The rewards you get in coaching high school mean the most to me.”
Holmes was humble about his selection, and spent most of the time thanking all of the people that helped him get to where he is, including his family, teammates, and coaches, especially Coach Sawyer and Lake Taylor assistant coach Mike Whittington, who has coached Holmes since middle school.
“This year has been kind of hard, but (my teammates) have had my back all the way through. Without them, I wouldn’t be here.” said Holmes at the ceremony.
Holmes will play in the game in early January, after his high school season is over. He’ll play his college ball at Ohio State University, after graduating from Lake Taylor High School in the spring.
